Reviews of recent events:

"I must have listened to around thirty poets read that evening, and every one was worth listening to .... Poetry is a participation sport; most readers are also writers of poetry, and the whole scene is democratic and unhierarchical. But this is not to say that standards have to be driven down to the lowest common denominator; there's no reason why that should happen, and the evidence of the Leicester readings is quite the opposite, with people generally trying to raise their game to keep up with others .... At the cutting edge, the poetry scene is open, participatory and supportive. Long may it stay that way!" - Alan Baker.

"I have had the pleasure of attending each event this year and it goes from strength to strength. Very well attended, it is defined by the quality of the floor readers as much as the headliners. Normally the floor readers are in awe of the headliners, here the headliners exchange anxious glances as the rest perform!" - Gary Longden.

"Nights like Shindig! remind me that the poetry 'scene' can also be highly supportive environment, with established poets happily getting up to share new work alongside those new to writing or performing. Everybody's work is given the space to be heard by the open-minded. It was great to be reminded that poetry sometimes really can feel like a 'community,' however over-used that word may have become" - David Clarke.
